For nearly three decades, Ashford Mediation Service (AMS) has helped thousands of people move past conflict and regain peace of mind. Since 1997, our trained volunteer mediators have supported residents across Ashford with free, confidential and impartial mediation – helping neighbours, families and communities find calm, practical solutions to everyday disputes. Today, we are proud to extend that same support to residents of Folkestone & Hythe , thanks to the generous support of the Kent Community Foundation and The Roger De Haan Charitable Trust . This partnership enables us to explore and deliver free mediation services to individuals, families and communities across the district. Ashford Mediation Service is thrilled to be able to offer places on its Mediator Training programme taking place in the New Year 2024. AMS provides training opportunities and courses to mediators and volunteers. We will be running a Mediator Training programme in the New Year. This course is free of charge to attend. Ashford Mediation Service is thrilled to be able to offer places on its Mediator Training programme taking place in October. Ashford Mediation Service is providing a five-day Mediator Training course at the AMS offices on Tufton Street in Ashford in October. The course is free to attend and is delivered by accredited mediator Tony Hamlin, who will work with participants to develop their skills and approach to manage the mediation process. The programme runs for five days and participants must be able to attend all of the dates. Ashford Mediation Service is seeking a Service Development Director. The role of the Service Development Director is to develop and manage the strategic and operational aims of the AMS to provide a professional mediation service to the Borough of Ashford. The Director will be expected to work independently but will report to the Board of Trustees at their quarterly meetings with a monthly report to the Chair. Any urgent matters are to be discussed with the Chairman or Treasurer as appropriate. Key areas of responsibility include income generation from grant funders, stakeholder management, case generation, management and monitoring, volunteer mediator management and financial and service delivery monitoring and reporting, and ensuring policies and procedures are adhered to. Ashford Mediation Service receives funding from the Kent Police & Crime Commissioner’s Fund. The Kent Police & Crime Commissioner’s Fund has generously awarded Ashford Mediation Service a grant to increase the targeting of its services to young people and families living in deprived communities in the borough. Abi Williams: I worked as an Executive Assistant and PA in London for many years and built up a wealth of knowledge in the administrative industry. I’ve always kept myself fit and healthy having trained as a dancer, and gaining qualifications in personal training, pre- and post-natal fitness and mental health awareness. Hi! I’m Sue Pitt, Chair of Ashford Mediation Service based in Ashford, Kent. Our organisation has 25 volunteer mediators who work with people in our community to prevent the escalation of conflict and to help those in conflict to resolve their differences. We often deal with noisy neighbour issues, parking and boundary issues, intergenerational family issues and child access where parents want to resolve without going to court. We can also help give people the knowledge, skills, and tools to resolve their own issues through our Conflict Coaching Service.
